3x3 Method

CFOP

The most popular speedsolving method used by many top cubers.

About CFOP

CFOP is the most popular advanced 3x3 speedsolving method. It breaks the solve into Cross, F2L, OLL, and PLL, which makes the solve structured, easy to train, and very effective for competitions.

The main strength of CFOP is that every step can be practiced separately. Cross planning, F2L efficiency, last-layer recognition, and algorithm execution all improve over time and give clear progress goals.

Most cubers use CFOP to reach sub-20, sub-15, and even sub-10 with enough practice. Good lookahead and finger tricks are just as important as algorithms, especially once you already know full PLL and more OLL cases.

Before learning full OLL and full PLL, you should be sure that you are serious about cubing and want to improve your times long-term. Full OLL and PLL require memorizing a lot of algorithms, so they can feel overwhelming if you rush into them too early.

It is much better to first become VERY comfortable with 2-Look OLL and 2-Look PLL. You should be able to recognize the cases quickly, execute the algorithms confidently, and solve without stopping to think too much. Once 2-Look becomes easy and natural, learning full OLL and PLL will be much simpler and more useful.
